RULES

Getting Started

To begin each person will create a character by a certain set of rules. These rules haven't been fully fleshed out but here is how it basicly goes.

The character will be able to fill out some basic information about himself such as E-mail address and PC name, real Name, etc. Then he will generate his character. In this case character generation will NOT be random. Each character will get a set # of Character Points (CP). These points will be used to raise the characters attributes, "purchase" spells for magic users, and acquire special abilities. Basicly they just help raise the characters ability.

So each character will configure his or her character with his CPs. During battle characters will gain more CPs to use and thus will be able to raise themselves to higher status.

Ok I've got a Character. What now?

So you've got a character. What the hell am I gonna do with him? Well after you register your character (in the future of this project we are hoping that registering and managing characters will all be done automaticly on-line. Here's hoping) you will be signed up in the next tournament if there is room. In the mean time you will be able to E-mail a special E-mail account (not known yet) to request that you want a battle. In this E-mail you can tell when you want to battle and what level you want to battle etc. In turn we will set you up with someone who wants to battle some one like you who has a similar time and date available and also matches the same requirements as a character.

For example if you want to fight on Tuesday or Wedsnday with anyone between 2-3 level who is a mage or rogue you will send a specially formatted E-mail to a special E-mail account. We will take that and send you a list of all people available to battle within your criteria. Now because there are not that many people playing it would be a wise decision to leave the criteria as open as possible. Otherwise you may not find anyone to battle with and be left behind as others advance in status.

Ok I've got into a Battle, what now?

Ok you've set the date, the time and your fresh character is ready to go. Now what? For now battles are going to be taken place on AOL. Battles will be moderated by a DM. He will make judgement calls but will not have a major role in the battle. He will describe the arena (arena's may be taken out. The idea behind arena's is that there will be large arena's that will be described giving players a chance to interact with the environment and use more of their intuition and skill to advance them in level. Arena designers may be needed if this becomes a part of the game). He will settle disputes. And he will resolve magical affects.

What is the goal? The whole point of fighting is to earn Battle Points (BP) and reach the Maximum BP. The person who reaches the Maximum BP first will be declared the winner. If a character is killed before the Maximum BP is reached then the battle ends. If a character reaches the Maximum BP then the battle ends.

So what is the Maximum BP? The Maximum BP is decided by the level of the PC.
Maximum BP = PC1's level X PC2's level X 5

So, for example, if two first level characters were fighting eachother the Maximum BP would be 5 (1x1x5) while two 4rth level characters would be 80 (4x4x5).

Ok. how do you get BP's? You get BP's for every point of damage you inflict on your oponent. When casting spells that don't directly cause damage to your oponent (like hold person) you get 3 BP's per level of the spell. You only get these BP's if the spell has some kind of affect on your opponent. The DM will decide if there is a discrepency between players. Rogues will get BP's for using skills that affect the other player. And so on.

Alright I won\lost. Now what?

If you won, and let's hope you did, you will now get your reward. So let's discuss your rewards

Experience:

If you win you will get the total # of BPx100 in experience + 10% of the experience your opponent had. The only exception to this rule is you will gain 50% of your opponents experience if you get a Player Kill.

Gold:

You will get gold for every battle you win. The winner get's the Maximum BPx10 in gold. So let's go back to our first level character example. They need 5 BP's to win the battle. Therefor the winner get's 50 gold. If there is a player kill the character get' a bonus. They will get an additional amount of gold equal to 10% of their victems Experience.

CP:

Character Points will be given to the winner for every 1 BP the character gained in this battle.

BP:

Battle points will be added to the PC's total BP's.

If you lost, (AHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA), you will still get something. You still get:
Experience:
You will get the total # of BPx100 you earned.

BP:
Your BP will be added to your total BP's.

Humiliation:
Each loss will be followed by a serious razzing from all the other PC's.

I'm confused! What the hell are you talking about?

Never fear this is all you need to know. After the battle is over the DM will E-mail the results of the match, basicly just telling who won, who had what BP's, who used what items or what items got moved around or used, and if it was a player kill or not, and some additional information. We will take that info and each PC will get and update on their character. They can also view the update on line. All you have to do is play.

So now everythings sorted out? Huh?

So do you just keep battling like this? Well no, eventually you have your tournaments and winning players get bonus's. But won't this get boring quick. It would if you couldn't improve your character but you can. What do I do with all this shit? I've got CP's and BP's and Gold and experience? Well when you reach enough Experience points to gain a new level you will and your character will be updated. But what about this other stuff?

It takes a lot of CPs to raise your characters abilities but eventually you will have enough CPs to do something. If you want to use your CP's (or Gold for that matter) to increase your characters abilities, you will go to the websight, select what you want to improve then send a specially formated E-mail to a special address and we will update your character and send the info back to you and post in on the web page. Note updating your character may take a day or two so if you have a battle coming up your old character info will be used. Until I can finish my CGI research it won't go any faster.

Ok I guess I have a vague Idea of CPs but what do I do with the Gold? I'm assuming I buy something but what? Good question. Gold will be used to buy new weapons, armor, and magic items (or combinations of them). We are really going to push potions for characters and so it would be a wise idea to purchase a few right when you get you first amount of gold. They will initially sell at 25gp each. Characters will start off with gold to purchase equipment for their characters during character creation, this may be a wise purchase. We are considering imposing a punishment for players who are killed in battle (they may not get experience and\or BPs for the battle, or they may even LOSE BPs).

And what do I do with BPs???? You can thank your lucky stars. Absolutely nothing! That's right. All they are there for is to give you status. To show others your accomplishments. To set you apart from the other losers below you. They will be used to give you rank. And probably to seed you in tournaments.

Tournaments

This isn't my department. And we haven't made any final decisions. Since this is a ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH draft of the rules be thankful I remembered to add this section.
